Riverside - Mike Jackson House features on BBC’s Politics Show

17 November 2009

Mike Jackson House, a supported scheme managed by ECHG for single service leavers and veterans, set the scene for a recent edition of the Politics Show.
The 15 minute segment was broadcast at midday on 8 November 2009 and included interviews with Veterans Minister Kevan Jones, ECHG Support Manager Derek Heath and current resident Pat Brady MBE.

During his interview with the Politics Show, Pat Brady MBE talked about the support he had received from the team at Mike Jackson House.

He said: ‘I served in the army and when I came out I became a teacher and did well. But it wasn’t until I was made redundant from teaching at 60 that all the manifestations of PTSD became apparent.

I ended up having flashbacks and dreams so vivid that I’d fall out of bed. So I was very isolated when I first came to ECHG and probably didn’t step outside my room for 2 months but the staff came and checked on me each day. I have to say that at Mike Jackson House I’ve had fantastic support.’

Veterans Minister Kevan Jones added: ‘I think that Mike Jackson House is doing great work and this is also why I’m pleased that we’ll be doing the groundbreaking ceremony on a new project in Catterick in January.’
